SPMOH Extends Entriy Deadline for Art Exhibit!

The St. Petersburg Museum of History is inviting artists to
submit paintings that pertain to aviation or aviation art.
Every aspect of aviation (airplanes, airports, space
crafts, aerial views, space travel) could be used as a
subject. Submit your original (non-professional) artwork
entries now through July 18th. Don’t wait!

Join the Diversity in Aviation Art Exhibit, a juried
exhibit of paintings by Middle School, High School, and
Adult (non-professional) artists. The entries will be shown
at the St. Petersburg Museum of History, in the Flight One
Gallery.

Judging and the awarding of cash and prizes will be the
highlight of a weekend (August 9-10, 2008) of fun
aviation-related events. A female engineer from NASA,
Lousie Kleba, and a NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration) representative are scheduled to speak at
the museum on August 10th.

This family-oriented weekend is one of the many events
lined up to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the maiden
flight of the world’s first commercial airline from St.
Petersburg to Tampa in 1914.

Through this exhibit, the Museum hopes to inspire artists
to tell the story of dreamers, aviation pioneers and
pilots, the joy of flight and the diversity in aviation.

The promotion and part of this event was made possible by
the Pinellas County Cultural Affairs Department and the St.
Petersburg Clearwater Convention and Visitors Bureau
through the Cultural Tourism Grant and the Art Education
and Outreach Grant. Funding for this project has been
provided by employees of the St. Petersburg Times through
the Employee Giving Program, matched from the St.
Petersburg Times Fund, Inc. and the Pinellas County
Cultural Council.
