Founded by Mary Wheeler Eaton in 1920, the Museum of History is the first museum in St. Petersburg and the third oldest in Florida. The St. Petersburg Historical Society was originally located in a small stucco building formerly housing an aquarium.
The Museum facility has been refurbished and updated over the years, including the 1991 addition of the First Flight Gallery, commemorating the first commercial airline flight that took place in 1914 between St. Petersburg and Tampa.
Getting there . . .
The Museum of History is located on the approach to The Pier in downtown St. Petersburg. Take I-275 exit 10 (Pier exit) to Beach Drive, then south to 2nd Avenue NE. Parking is available on the street, at the rear of the museum, or in the Pier lot next door to the museum.
